outsiders

In my book there are two social groups called the docs and the greasers. My main character is Pony and he is in the social group called greasers. Greasers are kind of the lower social class, the docs are the rich and fancy social class. So far in the book these two groups have been going at it , they've been jumping each other. Pony is the youngest child of his 3 brothers. During his early child hood his parents were killed in a car accident so his older brother has to take care of him and his other brother.Pony feels like he doesn't get treated equal to his other brother soda pop. Pony gets mad at his oldest brother darry because its kind of like he always expect more out of him no matter what if he gets a's its a problem and if he gets b's its a problem he feels like he's being targeted.
Most kids can relate  to how Pony feels by making a connection with there parents. Its like no matter how hard you try you could have done better. For example if you got an 80 on a test they say you should have got an 90. This can be very stressful to teenagers cause they feel like there giving it there best and no one is accepting that. This is the connection i made with The Outsiders

Non fiction article

One hundred years after the sinking of the R.M.S.Titanic on April 14, 1912, experts are still debating what caused the tragedy. Now, new research by British historian Tom Maltin points to an unusual optical illusion that may have hidden the iceberg that caused the Titanic’s deadly crash.
Maltin read weather records, testimony from survivors, and the ship’s logs to research his theory. The Titanic, he says, sailed from warm Gulf Stream waters into the freezing Labrador Current. There, the air column was cooling from the bottom up, creating layers of cold air below layers of warmer air. This is called a thermal inversion.
The thermal inversion, Maltin says, caused light to refract, or bend, abnormally downward. The refraction created mirages: Objects appeared higher—and therefore nearer—than they actually were, before a false horizon.
The area between the false horizon and the real horizon appeared as haze. The iceberg was hidden in the haze, so those aboard the Titanic didn’t see it until the ship was about to collide with it. As TitanicFirst Officer William McMaster Murdoch recalled, “That iceberg came right out of the haze.” But by that time, the Titanic was too close to avoid hitting it.
Shortly before the Titanic hit the iceberg, it sailed into the view of another ship, the Californian. But the refraction of the light made it appear too near and too small to be theTitanic—the largest ship in the world at the time. The Californian signaled the Titanic byMorse lamp, which uses flashes of light to send signals. The Titanic, now in trouble, also signaled the Californian by Morse lamp. But the thermal inversion disrupted the signals and the distress rockets the Titanic shot into the air. The Titanic finally sank at 2:20 a.m. local time on April 15.
Although some experts agree with Maltin’s theory, others say the Titanic sank simply because it ignored several warnings of heavy ice and because it was going too fast in dangerous waters. Whatever the cause, people remain fascinated with the Titanic, and researchers and historians will likely come up with new theories for years to come.

This article was very eye opening i find it strange that they never found an exact reason of the sinking. But the the way this article is making it seen was that it was just bad luck many things could have went wrong and cause the sinking. It also is saying maybe the captain wasn't listening to the warnings that many people were giving him about the ice in the waters. If it was the captain fault and he was still alive today would he be charged with murder ?

Plagiarizing..

What is Plagiarism?

Many people think of plagiarism as copying another's work, or borrowing someone else's original ideas. But terms like "copying" and "borrowing" can disguise the seriousness of the offense:

According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to "plagiarize" means

  • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
  • to use (another's production) without crediting the source
  • to commit literary theft
  • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.
In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward.

But can words and ideas really be stolen?

According to U.S. law, the answer is yes. The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual property, and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Almost all forms of expression fall under copyright protection as long as they are recorded in some way (such as a book or a computer file).

All of the following are considered plagiarism:

  • turning in someone else's work as your own
  • copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
  • failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
  • giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
  • changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
  • copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not (see our section on "fair use" rules)
Most cases of plagiarism can be avoided, however, by citing sources. Simply acknowledging that certain material has been borrowed, and providing your audience with the information necessary to find that source, is usually enough to prevent plagiarism. See our section on citation for more information on how to cite sources properly.
Plagiarism is bad and people should not do it and try to avoid it. Its like taking credit for some one else work. Some one could have spent weeks working on an article and you just come and copy it and call it yours is that fair? I  think its good that you get in trouble for plagiarism cause it shouldn't be done to any one. How would you feel if you spent your whole day working for hours on an essay and some lazy person seen it copied it and turned it in? You worked hard of hours to get your work done mean while all they had to do is copy it and they got the same work you did in hours they got done in minutes.

One way to avoid plagiarism is to give credit to the publisher.
another way to avoid plagiarism is to rephrase things.
Another way to avoid plagiarism is to simply just not do it,

Favorite post's

Sofia's post about "La Vie" by Pablo Picasso really caught my eye. She talked about Picasso's feelings behind his artwork . She also informed me about his back round and how art showed what he thought kind of putting his thoughts on paper. A simple painting like his can have one of the deepest meanings.
Another person post that i really liked was Ruby's on "Much To Do About Nothing". Her post really showed voice and emotions she talked about how the actors used the theatre space. I also like how she recognize  the time period of the play.
Looking at these two blog post i noticed some things i can work on wen doing my own blog posts . One thing i can do is elaborate on my topic give more details when introducing something.

MUCH TO DO ABOUT NOTHING

I really liked the play much to do about nothing. The characters used the space very well they kept the audience attention during the play. My favorite character was beatrice, she was scared to admit her love for benvilio but towards the end she go over it and admitted it. She also had a great voice when ever she sung she have strong vocals.

ROMEO & JULIET

DEAR JUSTIN,
So far in the book  i understand it, this book seems to be written in an old language. But when ever i get stuck i look at the left and it puts me back on track with the book. Im up to the part of the book when Samson and Gregory were being so rude towards the montagues. They talked about how much they hated the montagues. Romeo is depressed because he does not think he will ever find true love. This is what i read up to you in romeo and juliet.

SONNET

I do not want to write a sonnet now
They are to hard to write and make no sense
When i recite one all the people bow
And when i say it i get pretty tense
Sonnets make other people happy though
I wish i could find happiness in them
But i don't get how and they are so
I would say one if the lights were so dim

And the only reason i am so scared
I think i might have got a bad stage fright
And i am oh so very unprepared
I should make a sonnet so i might

Or maybe i just wont cause i don't care
it's so hard im gonna pull out my hair

WHAT IS , WHAT HAPPEN TO POEMS

What is money
is it something you spend
something you lend
or even borrow from a friend
how much can you have
how much can you spend
is a dollar worth a dollar

What happens to a car
when it runs to of gas
or gets in a crash
what about when you go over the speed limit
and  drive to fast
put it in park
or shift gears to drive
take off
in your brand new car

artwork reflection

The artist that I have chose is Paul Klee. He was very talented he did not know what he wanted to be. One day he had to choose out of music and art. This was a very important time in his life because he was passionate about both of the two. At the end he obviously chose art. He was such an unusual artist at the time he painted things that other artist thought were weird. I found his art really interesting because it was unique and kind of loud. Its kind of like his painting had music in it.
One painting that really caught my eye was the oil painting Paul Klee did. There was no white on this picture every inch of the canvas was covered with a color. I also like how he used lots of different colors and combined them into one image. Then he played with shapes in his image. It looked like he put shapes together to make one head.

READING RESPONSE

In my book "The Pool" strange things happen at this "hotel". The workers got an letter in the mail from a hotel they never heard of accepting them to work there. When they got there they were told there was no manger, they started questioning how are there workers with no managers? Wait that's not only the strange thing that happen people started dying or being seriously injured. Chemicals were thrown in people face, diving boards were breaking , people were being sucked down the drain and killed. The workers started thinking about the weird things that were happening and they found the reason behind it. It was a skeleton haunting the hotel and she wanted people to suffer the way she did when she was killed at a pool party.

reflection to the hoopster

The book "The Hoopster" is about a boy named Andre. Andre     must manage school, work, and he likes to play pick up basketball games.
When reading "The Hoopster" I observed how Andre boss was kind of trying to force him to write about racism. Andres boss main focus looked like he wanted to get Andre to write about slavery and nothing else. Andre had to tell him a million reasons why he cant write about racism. He feels like it doesn't affect him and he cant write about nothing he doesn't have emotion for. I feel like what Andre did was right because he stood up for something he didn't want to do. He kind of took action because if his boss wanted to he could have fired him for not listening.
This is one thing i noticed while reading "The Hoopster". One thing i learned is to stand up for your self.

READING RESPONSE

The book i am reading now is called "The Scariest Stories You've Ever Heard" its a horror book. The book is about an old myth about an abandoned house. People basically sat around a campfire and told the story about this haunted house. The group of teens did not believe it they wanted to see it for there self (like idiots). The night they went to the house they started seeing funny shadows and wolves running around the house. They started to become scared when they started dis-appearing one by one.

PICTURE BOOK TOPIC

My picture book will be focused on the topic of sharing. How during your grade school days you should share even when you grow up. One example is how drivers have to share the road with bikers.

SOCIAL AWARENESS pt.3

Jamie Hubley, a gay 15-year-old from Ottawa, Canada, committed suicide on Friday.
The 10th grade student documented his life, including his depression and the hardships of being a gay teen, in a blog, reports the Ottawa Citizen.
The blog, called "You Can't Break... When You're Already Broken" featured posts with numerous references to and photos of self harm and cutting, pictures of guys kissing and mentions of wanting a boyfriend, and bleak, ominous messages like "Sometimes I wish the breeze would just take me with it," "The only thing worse than being hated is being ignored. At least when they hate you they treat you like you exist," and "Suicides is always an option."
Other posts revealed how difficult school was for Hubley:
"I hate being the only open gay guy in my school… It f***ing sucks, I really want to end it. Like all of it, I not getting better theres 3 more years of highschool left, Iv been on 4 different anti -depressants, none of them worked. I’v been depressed since january, How f***ing long is this going to last. People said “It gets better”. Its f***ing bull****. I go to see psychologist, What the f*** are they suppost to f***ing do? All I do is talk about problems, it doesnt make them dissapear?? I give up."
His last post, which he wrote on Friday, paints a heartbreaking portrait of a boy looking for -- and ultimately unable to find -- acceptance:
Im a casualty of love.
Well, Im tired of life really. Its so hard, Im sorry, I cant take it anymore.
First Id like to mention my friends Nancy, Abby, Colleen, jemma, and Kasia
Being sad is sad : /. I’v been like this for way to long. I cant stand school, I cant stand earth, I cant stand society, I cant stand the scars on my arms, I cant f***ing stand any f***ing thing.
I dont want my parents to think this is their fault either… I love my mom and dad : ) Its just too hard. I dont want to wait 3 more years, this hurts too much. How do you even know It will get better? Its not.
I hit rock f***ing bottom, fell through a crack, now im stuck.
My favorite singers were lady gaga , Adele , Katy perry, and Jessie james, Christina aguilara and most of all I think KASIA!!! I LOVED Singing, and she helped me a lot : ) Im not that good at it though :”/, Im going to miss you guys(well You know who you are, But to the people who didnt like me (many) A big f*** you, Go ride a unicorn. But w/e I love you anyway.)
Remember me as a Unicorn :3 x) MAybe in my next life Il be a flying squirreel :D
Il fly away.
"From the outside, he looked like the happiest kid. He was always smiling and giving everybody hugs in the halls,” said Steph Wheeler, a close friend of Hubley's.
"I just remember him wanting a boyfriend so bad, he’d always ask me to find a boy for him. I think he wanted someone to love him for who he was,” she said.
A Facebook page dedicated to Hubley has been set up and students are planning a memorial performance in his honor.
Hubley's death comes just weeks after American teen Jamey Rodemeyer committed suicide after being bullied for being gay.
While many, including Lady Gaga who has called for bullying to be made illegal and Dan Savage who began the It Gets Better campaign, are working to help gay teens, sadly, it's obvious there remains much work to be done.
Update on October 18 at 8:54am ET: Hubley's father, Ottawa city councillor Allan Hubley, released a statement last night saying that his son was bullied in school and that his family believes it was a factor in his suicide. Discussing a "Rainbow Club" that Jamie tried to start at his high school to promote acceptance of others, Allan Hubley said:
"The posters were torn down and he was called vicious names in the hallways and online... We will not say that the bullying was the only reason for James's decision to take his own life but it was definitely a factor...We hope from our tragedy others will become more active in stopping this cruelty towards children."

This article really showed a case of what bullying can lead to.Some people need to understand that everybody is equal and should not be judge differently because of there sexual orientation. Some people just do it for fun but don't know that it can hurt some one deep down.I can make bullying into a a picture book by showing two of the same animals not getting along because one have a longer tail.

AMONG THE HIDDEN

Among The Hidden is by Margaret Peterson Haddix  its about a family with a third child. Most places having a third child is regular and is no big deal. In the book it is against  the law to have a third child. Since look is his family third child he must stay in the shadows and out of sight his whole life. One day when he was home alone while other kids were at school he saw a person in the house across the street. He started to get strange thoughts like was there some one like him out there.
The main character Luke is strong.I don't know if i could live my whole life in the house or worry about being killed one day because i was seen. When I read the book and seen how happy Luke was when he thought he wasn't the only one living a harsh life.If i was Luke i would have ran away some place far and started a new life. It's like Luke is playing a never ending game of hide and seek.It also must have hurt when he thought he found a friend and she was killed during a rally to help kids like him.

SOCIAL AWARENESS

 -Protesting
-Losing jobs
-Gangs
-Cyber Bullying
-Bullying
-Gun violence
-Fighting
-Robberies
-Littering
-Poverty
-Early Pregnancy

Lost of jobs is a big problem in the world we live in today. Its unfair to the people who went to college and worked hard all the years they did. It must hurt to know that what you have been doing for some years must come to end due to a budget cut. This can really hurt a family.May be only one parent worked and if they lost their job there is now no source of income towards the family.Lost of jobs are good for the government but not the people. The government saves more money so this can benefit them.
Lost of jobs can really have a bad affect on people.Since the person is not receiving money any more they might do illegal things for it. They might steal things such as food, clothes, and money.Crime rates can go up because now people have to much free time. One possible solution is to open up jobs for people. Like if a natural disaster happen people can have a job helping re-build things.

2ND BLOG POST ! (revised)

The book i am reading now is called TRUE TO THE GAME  By Teri Woods. This book is about a girl who feel in love with one of the biggest drug dealers. Now he must balance his life and change his ways  before its to late.
I never thought that at the end of the book Quadir (the drug dealer) would try to leave the drug game and start over.I think the only reason he thought about leaving the drug game is so that he can spend his life with the girl he fell in love with. It probably is hard trying to spend time with some one when you have to worry about being shot every second. It's kind of like once your in you can't get out.Cause people always will try to use your past against you.I can relate to this because some people think just because you did something you know was wrong a while ago they still think your that way now. For example if you were a bully in second grade people still might think that you still are one. This is a big issue because its like you work hard to change for the better but still get judged by the bad things you did.
Love played a huge role in my book "True To The Game". It made one of the biggest drug dealers quit his "job". Sometimes relationships can better some ones life or make it worst. In this story it made his life better, cause then he started making smarter choices. Him meeting Gena made him think about what he wants to do with the rest of his life. Or maybe he was worrying about what kind of person people would think he was when he passed.

TWO GOOD BLOGS

One good blog that i seen was written by Dania.I liked how she included her feelings when she was writing. One way she did this was by explaining the different views she good when she re-read the book. One thing that I might include in my next blog that she did is to include the lesson learned. She stated what she thought the moral was while she was reading I think that was a good thing.
Another good blog that I read was by Davey. I liked how he did like a then and now.He mentioned how his character relation ship changed as he got deeper into the book.I think in my next blog I will include this strategy.

hard times

Money Hungry By: Sharon G. Flakes
Money hungry is about a 13 year old girl who biggest fear is going broke and living on the streets. She thought some how she would manage a "job" and school. I like Raseberry as a character because the only thing she tried to do was make things easier for her mother during struggling moments. One way she did this was sell pencils and candy during school hours. To me she was real determined to help her mother out.
